Description

I made this low profile rear sight adapter so I could run a standard red dot on an AKS-74U without having to use one of those clunky side-mounts. To complete assembly you will need four 8 or 10mm long M4x0.7 bolts (button heads recommend). Installation is as simple as placing the center section on top the rear sight making firm flush contact with the metal, squeezing on the side plates (print 2) so the 'toes' tuck into the gap between the dust cover and rear sight, and then firmly tightening the side plate bolts to hold the unit in place. If your side plates slip (unit becomes loose) try going over the interface between the plates and center piece with some rough sandpaper - generally this will not be needed due to layer-lines but SLA might need some help. Note that the side plates were designed to allow for adjustment: if you find you cannot dial your optic in (IE, optic is aiming to high & cannot be adjusted lower), you can sand the bottom of the center piece to modify the angle it sits at on the rear sight and repeat installation. If your rear sight is not level, likewise you can sand one side or the other to ensure your optic sits flat relative the the receiver before installation. The dust cover should be able to fully open with most red dots: you will start to have issues if your optic is longer than ~47mm from the center of the rail to the front-lower end of the optic. The long tube-style red dot shown is a 1x22mm Pinty Pro which has it's optional flash hider installed (the mesh was replaced with a lens protector) - the shorter one is an AT3 Tactical RD-50. Note: your optic will hold zero exactly as well as your rear iron sight - which is to say it will not hold zero very well if the dust cover on your AKS is loose or sloppy. Ensure the hinge is tight and the cover closes snugly. Check you optic's zero after opening the cover a few times so you are aware of it's stability. Note2: If you want to use an EOTech style optic that has a locking clamp lever, be aware dismounting it from this rail can be tricky as the lever 'lock' can hit a bolt head on the adapter preventing it from being 'unlocked'. Solution is to pop the lever slightly, loosen the adjustment nut on the lever bolt to the max - this will give the lever enough play for the lock to be depressed. If you need some slight modification done to fit your application, please don't hesitate to comment and I will try to help!
