Description
Antarctic Snow Cruiser (1939) — Historic Exploration Vehicle This is a scale model of the legendary Antarctic Snow Cruiser, built for Admiral Richard E. Byrd’s 1939 expedition. Designed by Dr. Thomas Poulter, this 17-meter-long behemoth was intended to be a mobile research base capable of crossing the frozen continent. It featured a streamlined design, a diesel-electric powertrain, and a rooftop cradle for a scout plane. Despite its futuristic look, the Cruiser became a famous engineering failure: its smooth, massive tires couldn't gain traction in the snow, leaving it mostly stationary. After the expedition, it was abandoned and eventually disappeared, likely buried under deep ice or lost to the sea. A must-have for fans of Arctic history, vintage machinery, and dieselpunk aesthetics.
