Description
I tried nearly every filament clip available across Printables, Thingiverse, and MakerWorld. Each one fell short in at least one critical way: too loose on the spool, too stiff to install, too aggressive on filament, incompatible with different spool designs, or simply awkward to use. So I designed this one from scratch. This clip is engineered to be a true universal filament clip, working reliably across 200 g to 3 kg spools, plastic and cardboard, and a wide range of filament brands and spool geometries. WHY THIS CLIP WORKS BETTER Easy spool attachment and removal A wide, smooth V-shaped entry allows the clip to slide onto spool edges easily, even on thick rims. No forcing or fighting required. Wide spool compatibility Securely grips spool edges from approximately 1.5 mm to 5.5 mm thick, covering the vast majority of consumer filament spools. Designed for real spool geometry The clip length is tuned to reach past the thicker outer rim (typically the first 5–7 mm) and clamp onto the thinner structural section of the spool, where most clips fail to hold. Balanced flex with reliable grip Provides light grip on thin spool frames and stronger grip on thicker edges. The clip stays on securely and will not fall off unless intentionally removed. Filament-safe holding force The filament channel securely holds 1.75 mm filament with just enough resistance to prevent movement, without denting, kinking, or stressing the filament. Smooth, damage-free contact surfaces Rounded, teardrop-inspired geometry with flared ends prevents scratching or crushing and works well with cardboard spools. Simple, satisfying operation Filament insertion and removal is smooth and tool-free, with a subtle, silent snap you can feel. Strong and easy to print Prints cleanly without supports and maintains strength across common layer heights. Material-agnostic, PETG recommended Works well in PLA, PLA+, PETG, and TPU. Printed in PETG, it is extremely durable and should last a lifetime of spool changes. This clip was tested across spools from multiple manufacturers including Bambu, Creality, Kingroon, Elegoo, Sunlu, Nova, Anycubic, Siraya Tech, and Giantarm. It is designed to just work, no matter what spool you have. RECOMMENDED PRINT SETTINGS Nozzle: 0.4 mm Layer height: 0.2 to 0.28 mm Walls: 3 or more perimeters Infill: 20 to 30 percent Supports: none Material: PETG recommended (PLA or PLA+ also works) Print profile (.3mf file) for Bambu P1S printer and Kingroon PETG filament included.
