Description
This mold was designed with the intent to allow someone to make their own homemade bowling ball. A regulation sized bowling ball is 8.5 inches in diameter, this mold is designed to make one at 8.6 so that way after being sanded and smoothed out on a ball spinner it would be a regulation sized ball. I included STP files for anyone to take the data and modify it for their own purposes or to improve it. The original design was featured on 220avg's YouTube channel. This design was updated since he used it in his video "I built the WORST BOWLING BALL ever..." - The top half of the mold has a bigger pour opening with ventilation grooves to allow air to escape if using a funnel for the resin. The bottom mold has a 1/4" hole for a dowel pin to be used to suspend a core in the mold. Wooden dowel pins can be drilled out, I don't think a metal dowel pin is feasible but you can try if you would like. NECESSARY INFORMATION BEFORE USE: You have to sand and smooth out the layer lines of the print before using, then apply a thin layer of wax. Highly recommend using a layer or two of the green PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) Partall Film #10 on both halves of the inside of the molds before your creation process, as only using mold release did not allow the ball to come out freely. I still would use a layer of mold release on top of the PVA. PVA is water soluble, which means it easily can be cleaned up after being used as a separation barrier.
