Description

Hello, fellow campers! I have designed this Toilet Roll Holder specifically for bush camping purposes, though it is also very handy for stashing an emergency roll in the car (because let's be honest - you never know when you'll need it). It can be mounted with rope, webbing, attached to your camping kit, stuck on a branch/trowel/stick… the possibilities are endless. There are two styles of lids and bodies to choose from which are mix ‘n match - choose the parts that work best for your needs! There’s also an important Thread Test piece which I recommend printing first - more info below. Body Option 1: Mesh Body (example in orange) This one reminds me of country campfires where the fireplace has been assembled inside an old repurposed washing machine drum. Purely a cosmetic choice - though this may perhaps assist with keeping your TP dry in certain climates due to the increased airflow. Option 2: Plain Body (example in pink) Better weather and bug-proofing with this simple design, may also be the better option for car storage to minimise contact with dirt from nearby objects. 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media Lid Both lids come with two finger holes for screwing/unscrewing the lid, as well as a central hole for horizontal mounting. Option 1: Combo Lid This lid comes with plenty of cutouts to enable all sorts of mounting options. Will you sling it to your hiking backpack with a Velcro strap? Will you create a picture-frame style hanging loop with knotted paracord? Or will you use the tiny 2mm holes to mount a couple of metal hooks for suspending from your tent or tarp's guy line? I'd love to see what you come up with for your own unique setup. 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media Option 2: Plain Lid Just the finger holes and central hole on this one. Better for weather and insect-proofing at a cost of reduced mounting options, however you can still hang it horizontally or directly onto a suitably sized stick or trowel handle while heeding nature's call. ***IMPORTANT: Thread Test & Print Settings*** It is really important to note that printing threads can pose a challenge for printers due to the overhangs involved. This is why I've included a fifth piece - a Thread Test - that you can print first to ensure you have dialled in your settings to print the larger sections. There is some room for error - these threads will usually still work even if you've had to snip off a few rogue loops of filament. I recommend you print the Thread Test first, then the Lid - test that these work together, and then lastly print the Body. This is the Thread Test piece, it is exactly the same as the top section of the Body. As you can see, my thread test isn't 100% perfect but it still screws onto my lids without any issues: 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media Settings that may help: Layer height 0.2mm or less Reduce your printing speed (esp. if you have a high-speed printer) Enable Dynamic Overhang Speeds on Detect Bridging Perimeters on Supports (note: I opted not to support my threads, but if you've got the patience to pick the supports off afterwards, it may help to maintain their integrity) Material: these demo models were printed in PLA+, however consider a more UV and temperature resistant material if being exposed to heat & sun for prolonged periods. Consider printing in a hi-vis colour so that you can find it again after nature calls :) I also recommend a painted support for the bridge where the toilet paper leaves the holder: 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media I am still learning the arts of 3D printing and CAD design, so if you have any other helpful tips for printing threads, please feel free to leave a comment! I'd love to see your makes and how you choose to mount or hang them in your camping kit, please share your makes and lastly leave me a ‘heart’ if you like my design! HAPPY CAMPING :)
