Description
Description This is a card wallet that suits my own overdesigned, destructive nature. In the early versions, I didn't have a printer that could easily do multi-color printing, so I designed the "gold bar" parts as inlays (glued in place) to give your fingers something to grip when opening the case. The honeycomb/bee design was a concept for a logo in case this ever turned into a real product. Ignore the color choices I am showing here. They are hideous. I originally designed it to be black gold and white which looked much better. It took me 12 versions before I got the design right. It is rather thick, but I tend to sit on my wallet by accident all the time, so I wanted something that could survive excessive abuse. It is bulkier than other designs of this type, but I enjoy the weight of it, and the opening mechanism has a satisfying fidget quality to it. I was also experimenting with compliant designs for the locking mechanism using a friction fit, as well as fuzzy walls on the outer edges — though neither is required and neither meaningfully improves the design. This version holds 5 cards, but I've also made a version that holds 10 if anyone is interested. I made a video showing the assembly process, since the steps are a bit too involved to describe in words. 🔩 Hardware: 2x 4mm M3 button head bolts 3x 8mm M3 hex head bolts 1x 8mm M4 hex head bolt, with washer 1x M4 metal rivet nut insert Watch this video for assembly instructions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOFUsxbEXQw
