Hello? Excuse me? Is this thing on? ffrroogg posted his version of an X-Acto knife called "X-ACTO Knife Handle and Locking Cap - V5 release" right here on Thingiverse, and he said AND I QUOTE "I present to you: the nicest Xacto knife you've ever used, or your money back". Well... I need my money back (he didn't charge me). I now present to you the actual greatest hobby/craft/not X-Acto knife you have ever seen. For real this time, but without the money back guarantee. I liked the overall vibe of his V5 design. The cap fit nicely over the blade, and even stayed on the back side during use so it stays within our dimension. I had no problems with any of the features printing, and the blade stays inside its little home perfectly. BUT... I made some changes. A sharp knife cuts things, a dull knife cuts people. Wheres the fun of having a hobby knife if you have to worry about running out of blades? I also snap them more than I would ever like to admit, but that's another issue for another day. I added a built in pocket that fits up to 5 blades (depending on your levels of ambition), without having to worry about the related problems that often comes with having extra blades such as: -Blades coming out of their case and stabbing you -Having to carry another thing in your pocket -Some other reasons that definitely justify designing this I also have big hands and plenty of joint pain, so bigger things always feel better in my hands. What can I say. I also added a bit of measurement marks on the cap; inches on one side for all the cool people, and mm on the other side for... everyone else ig. It is also balanced nicely when there's blades inside for... when you are... feeling like... a ninja? I tried to design this in such a way that very few supports are needed, as it felt like a challenge posed by ffrroogg himself. The cap can be printed with no supports pretty reliably, and the cap for the blade pocket better not need supports. For the handle itself........ eh. You can get away with absolutely no supports. I have done it before. It does actually bridge, but you do end up with a string or two of filament dangling about, and if you're here, you don't have anything to cut it off. Sad. The pocket itself bridges nicely, as well as the back and sides of the slots for the lid. But that stretch across the opening of the lid thing, ooooof. If you add a few supports on that little edge, it comes out MINTY. Print the handle right side up, the lid flat side down (or get creative if you feel antsy), and the cap on its... sides? Top? The biggest, the largest, the flattest side. Yes. That one. I think that is about it. Later.
