Description

Just as Andrew Roth's initial Dual Spool Cord Wrap design was spool-specific (Prusament), this remix was made to fit the empty spools of my daily-driver filament (KVP/MakeShaper). This remix will also work well with empty spools from other filament brands that have an arbor inside diameter greater than 50mm and are smaller than 205mm in diameter. Please post in the comments what other spools this works for! This remix eliminates the need for an extra tool (or two) to be printed, lost, & printed again the next time you want to make another cord wrap. It increases the range of spools that fit the cord wrap by reducing the nut/screw outside diameter (Andrew has since released a version of his cord wrap that does the same) and accommodates slightly larger diameter spools. The handle is easier to print using supports due to a new cutout and the new handle shape provides additional cord-wrapping options. This remix preserves the hex openings in the nut/screw heads to allow Andrew's original cord snaps to be used. For a complete list of changes, see the changelog below. To build this cord wrap, you will need to print: 1x 50mm Generic Handle Remix - Hollow - 205mm.stl 1x 50mm Generic Side Plate Remix - 205mm.stl 2x 50mm Generic Barrel Nut Remix.stl 2x 50mm Generic Barrel Screw Remix.stl 2x KVP-MakeShaper Center Hub.stl (if needed) Any cord snaps you would like to use (available from Andrew's original model files ) Print Settings All parts should be properly oriented & are designed to be printed without supports. The exception to this is the 50mm Generic Handle Remix— supports can be used to eliminate the need for bridging & provide a smoother finish to the underside of the handle. A cutout has been added to the handle baseplate to facilitate adding supports from the print bed to the underside of the handle. For best results, print using a 0.2mm layer height. I used 40% infill, but you can experiment with other infill densities if you’d like. If this cord wrap will live in a potentially hot environment like a garage, vehicle, or camper, it is best to use a heat-resistant filament such as ABS or ASA. Value4Value This remix is being released under the Value4Value model. If you received any value from my work, please determine what it was worth to you & return that value to me in the form of a donation. Thank you for supporting my work! Changelog Changes made from the original design: • 50mm Generic Handle Remix - Hollow - 205mm — added cutout to baseplate to facilitate printing with supports, increased distance between spool arbor centers to accommodate spools up to 205mm in diameter, rounded baseplate corners, added chamfers, & resized slightly for aesthetic/continuity reasons, added keyed recesses to baseplate to accept barrel nut/screw tooless heads, hollowed handle uprights to increase strength & reduce filament usage, changed handle geometry to provide additional cord-wrapping options & reduce filament usage, added hidden “maker's mark” • 50mm Generic Side Plate Remix - 205mm — increased thickness from 2mm to 4mm, increased distance between spool arbor centers to accommodate spools up to 205mm in diameter, rounded corners, added chamfers, & resized slightly for aesthetic/continuity reasons • 50mm Generic Barrel Nut Remix — reduced shank OD to 50mm to accommodate spools with a smaller arbor ID, lengthened shank to better interface with recessed KVP/MakeShaper spool arbor on one side, added 10mm tall tooless head, chamfered internal geometry to reduce filament usage • 50mm Generic Barrel Screw Remix — reduced shank OD to 50mm to accommodate spools with a smaller arbor ID, added 10mm tall tooless head, chamfered internal geometry to reduce filament usage • KVP-MakeShaper Center Hub — newly modeled part to correct for KVP/MakeShaper spool arbor asymmetry & prevents bowing of handle/side plate if overtightened “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.” — Isaac Newton This cord wrap was remixed from the original Dual Spool Cord Wrap by Andrew Roth.
