Description
What's Different? This model was updated to use a metal pin as a hinge. Using a metal hinge pin is more durable and will extend the life of your printed case. Hinge Test Model A hinge test model was provided so you can print the hinge first and test the pin tolerance and fitment before committing to printing the entire case. Making the Hinge Pin(s) Two 3d 1in-2in finishing nails can be used as pins.If you don't have access to finishing nails from your local hardware store you can also use 13 or 14 AWG gauge wire or a metal coat hanger to create the pins. The hinge pin can be made using a single 4.75 in (120.5mm) long piece of coat hanger wire or two 1in-2in (40-50mm) pieces inserted at each end of the hinge. 3d Finishing Nails 13 AWG wire Metal Coat Hanger Pin Installation To install the hinge nail/pin first install the top and bottom parts of the case together making sure that the through-hole of the hinges align. Once aligned insert the pin(s) using needle nose pliers. If the pin does not go in easily put it in the freezer for a few minutes to shrink the metal then try again. Once installed Open and close the case a few times till the lid closes smoothly. Happy making! IG: @DIYGarage_SoCal
