Description
An Elesco tender oil skimmer for the return condensate from the feedwater heater on steam locomotives. I made this for my Bachmann Hudson because from the factory its missing many details like the skimmer. I'll probably post more parts that I make as I think to include them. (It's a little larger than 1/87 so you will need to scale it down.) According to a book on feedwater heating equipment: "A considerable quantity of water can be saved by returning the condensate from the heater to the tank: this is an important item where high-speed traffic is concerned. However, before this water can be used again, the lubricating oil must be removed; otherwise it will cause the water in the boiler to foam. The oil skimmer is designed to remove the oil before the condensate [from the superheater header] is permitted to mix with water in the tender."
