Description
I created this system so that I could easily swap out metal photo prints on my wall. I wanted to be able to change photo sizes without the center of the photo moving. The idea with this system is that you pick the smallest size photo you plan to display and then you mount that corresponding mount to all of your photos of that size or larger. Then, because you centered the mount on your photo, it'll always land at the same spot on the french cleat. Let me know if there's a photo size that I didn't account for that you'd like. The CAD is available on OnShape if you'd like to modify it or export STEP files. Picking your files If the smallest you will display is 5x7, then pick that mount size and print the corresponding offset guides based on what you're mounting to. In total, you'll need to print the following parts: picture french cleat-AAAxBBB offset guide (print 2 copies) offset guide-AAAxBBB_mount on_CCCxDDD_picture if mounting to a larger photo offset guide-matched if mounting to the matched photo size wall french cleat Printing Print the wall french cleat on the large chamfer flat so that the nail holes are relatively horizontal. Use 4 wall loops. 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media Print the picture mount with the larger part of the flat face down. It shouldn't need supports if you're printing the screw hole version. Use 4 wall loops. 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media Print the offset guide with the large flat side down. Print 2 copies. 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media Mounting your picture Set the offset guides on opposite corners of your photo. Make sure they're tight to the corner. Use 1/4 inch VHB tape (it's OK to cut this down from a wider tape) or some other double-stick foam tape with strong grip to mount the picture french cleat to the back of your photo. Or use the screw version if you're mounting to something like a flat piece of wood. Use picture hanging nails to mount the wall french cleat to the wall. Set your picture onto the french cleat!
