Description
Ford F-150 models starting with 1997 have a spring-loaded door over the cigarette lighter and "Power Pt". The springs and clips break. There used to be a Ford part to repair the entire door, springs and clips, F65Z-1504643-AAD, but that part is no longer available. This thing is just a spring that holds the door shut. The door can then be held open to access the receptacles. "Hold open" is not the original design, but its all I could 3D print. For this thing, you do not need to do all that is in this forum, but for reference, here are pictures of the original part and how the no-longer-available replacement part was installed: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1560315-power-point-cover-door-installation.html The uninstall of the dash panel required for that repair part is NOT required to install this thing. Instead, you must drill a 3/32 inch hole to mount this spring. The hole should be centered left-to-right in the pictured valley. The distance from the bottom should be no more than about 1/8". The hole will line up with the holes in this spring. I used a #4 x 3/8" self tapping screw through the spring holes and the drilled hole to keep it in place. The forked end of the spring must face you (and the door.) The fork engages on the door as seen in the photos. You can't see the spring loop in the photos because the loop is behind the metal panel that we drilled. Use a high temperature filament. PLA will get soft in summer and lose its spring.
