Description
The entire world needs one of these PoC radio/walkie talkies (which is besides the point) but I made a case for mine, a PoC model G05 by XotodRem, or a bunch of other names. Before I rant and rave about these things, here's the case I made. I spends my days doing all sorts of manual labor, so I break just about everything I have. I made this case that covers the screen so it doesn't get smashed, even though I think its one of the plastic screens not glass, but whatever. I also always hit the button on everything, because when you lock out the radio buttons it only stops registering inputs from everything besides the push to talk button. It slips right over the top and there's a slot on each side of the clip that goes around the rotating pin that holds the clip on. For the push to talk button, I originally designed a lever style thing so that I can have some resistance to the button, and have some backlash before I actually hit the button. I'm far too lazy to print in anything besides PLA, and with the layer line orientation even on a hotter print, it snapped instantly. What a shocker. So here we are. I made a little slider that sits in slot over the area of the button. When its at the bottom, yay gravity, it isn't over the button. When you slide it into the upper position, it perfectly goes over the button so you can easily use it, even with gloves and such on. For the print, no supports needed. The bottom of the top ring isn't supper pretty, but the gap is able to be bridged easily enough and you can clean it up with an Exacto cutter I posted a print for wink wink . The slider for the push to talk has a very very small connection to the bottom ring which has to be cut before it slides. My printer sometimes leaks some filament when moving between parts, and this sometimes ends up creating a small connection where the layer lines on the little wings of the slider are, which just has to be trimmed off. If its there and you cut it, you should make sure there's not a little tag left on the wing because that makes it catch when you slide it sometimes. Now for the wonders of a PoC radio. YOU NEED ONE. They are like $60 a piece on amazon, and you can keep hooking them together as you buy more, which you absolutely will. The Push to talk Over Cellular radios connect to each other via cell towers, but they are not tied to a single carrier, and they are a one time fee (included in that $60). They are supposed to work anywhere in the world, regardless from how far away you are from everyone else. You can get ones with GPS, satalite, am/fm radio, and all other bells and whistles. The one I have is a PoC model G05 by XotodRem, but theres a handfull of names slapped on them which seem to be the exact same.
