Description

###Background The Get The Fog Out (GTFO, thing:5936549) is a great project. It had at its base goggles marketed for airsoft activities. The purpose of this project is, principally, to modify the original GTFO idea into something better suited for snow goggles. Accordingly, I chose a widely-available, inexpensive snow goggle (around US$30, specified below) as the base of my design. In the future, if I, or others, find additional goggles that work with this Winter Edition design, even if it requires minor modifications, those goggle models (and any needed mods) will be listed below. I have no reason to think that non-snow activities, including airsoft, could not use all or parts of the following design. Like so many Maker projects, it is really a matter of personalized preferences. That said, if you plan to use parts of this design in activities where people are shooting things at you, please make sure that you choose the right materials and components to remain safe. I am not responsible for bad outcomes resulting from your choices. The problem to solve: Fog in eyewear (or glassware) often results when two bodies of air, at different temperatures and humidities, bump up against each other. The moisture in the warmer air makes contact, through a lens (or building or car window), with something colder (such as cold air), and converts humidity in the warm air back into liquid form, forming little droplets on surfaces. In snow sports, generally the warmer, wetter air is between your skin and your snow googles. The cooler air is on the outside of your lens. One way to solve this is to pull the humid warm air out of the goggles. I’ve seen and even tried such a design before. A similar method, used here (and my preference), pushes cooler, dryer air from the outside into the goggle, which in turn pushes the warmer air inside your goggles out through the vents. By doing this, the difference in temperature and humidity across the lens is reduced, reducing fog. Many snow goggles advertise having fog-resistant coatings. In honesty, those work pretty well in many situations. However, if you wear glasses under your goggles, the anti-fog protection on the glasses is often significantly less impressive than what is found on a snow goggle lens. After all, with most glasses, air between your face and glasses can easily exchange, so normally fogging is not much of concern for regular glasses. As such, glasses wearers are more likely to find their glasses fogging than the actual goggle lens. This is where my story began. This project comprises building a couple of things, 1. Blower assembly, 2. Goggle inlets, 3. Speed controller [Not strictly required, but encouraged]. Each part comprises 3D printed parts and affordable, purchased items. Not all parts are needed, so it is encouraged that you determine which “Optional” parts you will skip before you get start printing and buying. ###Master Parts List: Part A 5015_GTFO_small_v13c.stl (Borrowing heavily from the original GTFO blower case) Part B GTFO_cover_small_v13b.stl (Borrowing heavily from the original GTFO blower case) Part C adapter_v7c.stl (modified from original GTFO tube adapter) Part D GTFO_side_inlet_v8_emboss.stl (need 2) Part E GTFO_split_ring v10c.stl (need 2) Part F Top USB 5V Fan Speed_v11.stl Part G BOT USB 5V Fan Speed_v12_emboss.stl (likely needs printing with supports) Part H strap_clip_50_14_12.stl (need 2) Part I helmet_to_blower_clip.stl Part J Amazon.com : OutdoorMaster OTG Ski Goggles - Over Glasses Ski/Snowboard Goggles for Men, Women & Youth - 100% UV Protection (Black Frame + VLT 47% Gray Lens) : Sports & Outdoors (Other goggles can work, as long as there OTG, the only likely change would be how to attach the air inlets to the goggles.)
