Description
We loved the original model from PrintThatBoii (https://www.printables.com/model/331994-cute-christmas-tree-with-shoes) so much that we wanted to scale it up by a lot to make a giant one. You can even see our big tree friend on video! => When doing this massive version we encountered some problems with the shoes part. We uploaded various pics to try and explain the issues and solutions. First the shoe appears to be cut horizontally in multiple parts. This can be fixed automatically in Slicer through Netfabb model repair. But then a second issue appears with the laces on the outside of both shoes not touching the main shoes anymore. At 100% this can be ignored and it will still stick perfectly. At 227% this is not possible as the laces will break. We edited the model in fusion360 to make it closed and manifold again at the laces. Then it worked as expected in slicer and was could go on and print a magnificent mega tree with funny shoes. The kid loves it :D Denon speaker for scale. The main tree is printed at 225% size, .3 layer height, 3 perimeters, 6 Bottom layers, 15% lightning infill, no support, in only 7h32 (quite good regarding the size we think). The shoes are printed at 226% size, .3 layer height, 3 perimeters, 6 Bottom layers, 20% lightning infill, support manually on the front of the sole and under the laces. We also cut around 2.25mm at the base (after scaling) to give it a flatter base. They took 6h30 to print. You will need to use some glue to stick the shoes to the tree as the fit is quite loose. (Please note that the tree.stl is untouched and is the same as in the original model, only the shoes_fixed.stl was edited)
