Description

This cryptex is designed for girl scouts! We added out troop number as the code to use it as an end of year gift and help the girls remember our troop number. Printing - I printed this without supports. Note that you have to print the parts labelled with 4x four times. The number rings are the same as the previous design and I uploaded them with this design for convenience. Assembly: Choose your code and then push the number rings over the lock rings with the number of choice aligned with the gap. Slide the number+lock rings onto the outer bolt, and then insert the inner bolt into the outer bolt. You will have to enter your code to do this. Look at your code and make sure it is how you want it to be. You will not be able to change this after assembly. Note the number rings can be put on backwards! I would recommend a dry fit without glue to make sure it's how you want it to look. Put glue into the trench on the end cap (don't add too much!). Now you insert the outer bolt with the rings into the end cap. I left the end cap on a table, put a small piece of paper towel or other spacer between the number rings and the endcap, and then put something heavy on top of the outer bolt. NOTE: the inner bolt should not be in place during gluing to ensure it doesn't get glued in place. After everything has dried remove spacers and insert inner bolt and check the code. Please upload makes so I can see how these look Materials: Of course use whatever materials you'd like but here is what I used for this print: Green end cap and bolts: PLA Silk Green https://amzn.to/4ozfvyD Number Lock Rings: PLA Silk Dreamy Trio https://amzn.to/4ooF9Gb Glue: Clear Gorilla Glue https://amzn.to/46DMawf Future Planned Changes: The inner and outer bolts are a little thin and fragile. We had one break when a girl dropped it. In the future I would make the walls a little bit thicker to make the cryptex more durable. Additionally, I think a spacer bump to avoid the lock ring from getting glued on would be nice to have. Lastly, a snap on fitting would potentially eliminate the need for glue at all!
