Gridfinity Storage Box 5x5x6u with integrated hinge

Prototype remix of the Gridfinity Storage Box V1 by Pred, with an integrated, more robust hinge. The hinge leaves will also act as a base for standing the box vertically. I also removed the sweeps from around the circumference as I felt they were surplus to requirements. The original hinge protrudes 8mm from the base. This integrated hinge protrudes 10mm. Notes Hinge Bolt The tolerance on the M3 holes on the hinge is a little tight (3.2mm) so bolts may ‘self tap’ - I will widen this out a touch if I make a 2nd iteration. The base hinge leaves can be around 4-5mm wider in future to accommodate the bolt head - offering a little more strength. Strength The vertical layers on the hinge present a potential of shear if the lid's back edge pushes against the base hinge barrel. I have not managed to do this yet, but this could be a thing when printed on lower-tolerance printers. My initial test print is flush and works great. Lid Opening The Lid will not open past 180 degrees. Any future iteration could modify the back edges of the lid to accommodate a larger angle and place less stress on the hinge barrels when the lid is open. Hinge placement The hinge could be moved to the top of the base back and inserted into the lid; placing the pivot here though creates a more significant potential for the lid to rub against the bin tops when being lifted. With zero tolerance between the hinge barrels, I wanted these to wear down naturally. I may introduce a little wiggle room if this is an issue. Modularity The hinge could be replaceable using the previous iteration idea. A slide-in click fitting to the base corner ‘buttress’ that goes the depth of the base would be worth exploring.
