Description
I've been using Ripleys glass store for a while now but saw an opening for making it more useful. I regularly find myself at the back of the printer changing filament and not having snips to hand. It annoys me every time, so I set about a remix of the rails and made a few changes resulting in the four top glass rail mounts now here. At the core of the design, a left and right rail are screwed to the side of the printer using the pre existing screws and holes for the side panel on the printer. Once fitted you can simply slip the glass into the rails whenever it is off the printer to keep it safely mounted to the printers side and out of harms way. There is a left and right for each rail type here so you can mix and match to have what options you prefer from the 4 sets. Version one is solely for holding the glass on the side of the printer when it has to be off for whatever reason. I added a short guide extension to the top of the rails to make putting the glass in the rails a bit quicker and easier. Version two was created for those who use glue sticks on their print beds. The receptacle has two openings, one is a 28mm round hole (the glue stick I got with the K1 max was 25mm so I based it on that). The second opening I made more squared off for whatever use you may have for it. I chose dual openings over one large opening as the K1 shakes about a fair bit so I was keeping things more constrained rather than rattling around in a large opening. Version three is for snips/side cutters. The gap was 13mm wide but I went back and widened it as the cutters that came with my max were a tight fit at 13mm and are much more substantial than the cutters I use most (which came with my Ender 3v2 and Ender 3 max). Regardless of which cutters used they all fit perfectly as I designed the opening for the cutters to go in jaws first meaning the handles firmly hold against the walls of the print. Version 4 is another snips/side cutter variant but also has the option to have Allen keys on it as well. My first test print (shown in the pics) didn't have the additional slots to keep the Allen keys from rattling together. I updated the two stl files so that they now sit in individual channels keeping them in place and also making them easier to individually remove when needed as they protrude out enough to lift as needed. The three tool versions all have a small guard lip at the top to prevent accidentally hitting the glass with a tool when removing or returning a tool to the storage spaces. Equally, the tool portion was made to stand off clear of the glass so the glass will never touch the tool holders when being slid into place. Print info:- Print them strong, I'd suggest 4 walls and a minimum 40 percent infill. All are best printed with the channel opening facing upwards, I kept the tool segments flat on one side to help with adhesion and also make them an easier print. Supports will be needed for all the tool variants. Be careful when removing supports as the rails themselves are pretty thin. They are more than strong enough when fitted and in use on the printer (I've been using the side cutter versions for a good few months now with no issues whatsoever).
