Description
Introduction When you have a lot of filament, it's easy to mix up what spool holds what, especially if you frequently use similar colours. This can be a real issue: you can accidentally dry a spool at the wrong temperature, or load PETG when you thought you had PLA, causing jams. For filament samples, this is even worse, as they tend to accumulate fairly fast. This takes the excellent honeycomb filament sample spool by Aikoly, and adds a label indicating which material is spooled on. Currently, I provide a PLA and PETG-labelled top side, and also provide a blank for those who want to modify and add their own. I'm happy to add more on request. How to print this Pick a top and a bottom: the top determines the label, the bottom the capacity. I recommend the following print settings: 0.2mm layer height. I wouldn't go thicker, as this could cause issues with the thread. 15% infill. Only the thick inner part of the spool will actually be infilled. No supports or brim. You won't need it. PLA is a fine material for this use, but PETG will also work (and has been tested). If you plan to spool on materials with higher drying temperatures, consider PLA's glass transition temperature of 50C: if you heat much above that, your spool might deform.
