Description
Soviet jet fighter from 1946, scale 1/200. Power came from a pair of RD-20 turbojets, based on the BMW 003 engine from the He-162 jet fighter. MiG had originally planned to install a huge 57mm cannon in the nose, but the plan was dropped after several MiG-9s had engine failures when the gun was fired. The gases from the muzzle blast ended up in the intake and caused the engines to stop. Ultimately, MiG decided to go with a more conventional 37mm cannon. Pilots weren't bothered, because there was also a pair of 23mm guns to fall back on! Also equipped the PLAAF, which used it to defend Beijing shortly after the Chinese Civil War. The Chinese switched to the MiG-15 for their involvement in the Korean War. I'll consider doing its stablemate (the Yak-15 and Yak-17) soon, be on the lookout!
