Note: Several of my designs (and remixes) for my CNC plasma rig are available here for free, and several others are exclusively for my supporters on Patreon that support for any amount, even if only a dollar a month. https://www.patreon.com/design8studio Nut capture slots are a mixed bag on whether they are good or bad. I have usually seen them hold for one use, but become problematic on instances where you need to loosen and remove screws to redo something, and re-insert again a 2nd or 3rd time. One thing: if you get them working right, don’t over tighten them or you risk “spinning” the nut in the slot and then it never works right again. At that point having no capture slot is better than a ruined one! Ryan of V1 engineering mentioned to me at one point that for the braces on the gantry of the LowRider CNC v3, he opposed capture slots, but was outvoted by the beta team, and so he did put them on one side out of three on the braces. In my work (having now built two LR3's and also other projects that had nut capture slots in places impossible to reach with tools) I tend to agree with Ryan. Nevertheless I remixed the LR3 brace (in all three tube diameter configurations) to have capture slots on all the screw holes instead of just one side, simply because I was building a second LR3 and wanted to see if it was better. My feelings were somewhat mixed on whether it’s better or worse, but leaned slightly toward that it was better. You may or may not agree, but I am making the option available! Print and Assembly: Use the same infill % and number of perimeter walls as stipulated in the LR3 docs. Print the parts as oriented. No supports needed, assuming your printer is capable of a decent amount of bridging. Use the same assembly steps as as stipulated in the LR3 docs, except the nut capture slots being the only difference. Change log: November 14, 2022, 1:45 pm (EST): initial posting of v1.0.
