Description
Description This is a set of magnetic dust collection connectors that let you snap a hose on and off multiple tools quickly. This is a redesign inspired by Robert Bieber's original model here: https://www.printables.com/model/333517-magnetic-dust-collection-connectors/comments I rebuilt the geometry from scratch and made changes focused on: closer male/female fit glue-free magnet retention reduced overall size. Note these are NOT compatible with the originals due to a reduced center diameter for the magnet layout. As with the originals, all tapers are a max of ~45 degrees to allow printing upright with no supports. Files and customization STL and Fusion 360 files are included. Tool-side connectors: 121 mm tool side, tailored to fit factory dust ports on Hammer and Felder machines 100 mm tool side, for common ~4 inch / ~100 mm ports Hose-side connector: 100 mm hose side, sized to slip inside typical 4 inch flex hose The Fusion model is customizable, but it is not parameterized. The most practical way to modify sizes is to edit the base sketches (eg port diameters and fit allowances). Magnet Fitting Retention Uses 10x3 mm round magnets. Each pocket is intended to press fit a stack of two magnets with no glue needed for retention. My prints were on a Bambu A1 Mini in Bambu PLA. Depending on your printer, settings, magnets, and filament, you may need to do a test print and fine tuning of the magnet pockets to achieve a satisfactory fit, or use some glue for retention. My magnets measured 10.00mm diameter and 5.55mm thickness for a stack of two. The pockets as modeled here are 10.07 mm diameter and 5.60 mm deep. To achieve this fit, I printed test coupons with a swept array of depths and heights, with my initial guess based on experience with my printer. The included coupon sweeps (10.05, 10.07, 10.09) mm diameter x (5.55, 5.60, 5.65) mm depth. Installation Be sure to press magnets into all hose-side connectors with the same polarity, and use opposite polarity for tool-side connectors so your entire workshop is compatible.
