Description
First of all a big thank you to JeepingJohnny and all the predecessors in making these great models. With these models you can use E6000/S80 needles which are much easier to get in Europe. I had some issues with the rounded groove design as well - so I made them square. Please consider the parts as experimental as I didn't found enough time to test them properly. The results in my machine seem to be quite promising (without yarn!). As cylinder spring I use a cylinder steel-spring made out of the drive belt of a little steam engine. They are cheap and adjustable in length: https://www.ebay.de/itm/164277152535 I will update this page with more cylinder sizes, photos and tips for building a CSM for you and your Mom in Europe. UPDATE: In principle, the design changes work. Unfortunately, I had a single needle from a different system (a needle from a "knitting fairy" made in GDR) and used it to take the measurements. These needles are 5mm shorter than the E6000/S80. This resulted in a much too dense stitch pattern because the needles could not plunge deep enough into the cylinder. → Cylinder Files are updated check out for “v1” - Soon I will provide a correction ring for those with ready printed parts. “correctionring+5mm.stl” is for those who printed the shorter cylinders. Just glue it to the lower part of your cylinder - it will extend the needle-grooves by 5mm. Replace the original “cylinder_riser” file with the one provided here. NOTICE: you will only need this if you already printed the older (shorter) parts. Otherwise use the original “cylinder_riser” file When I found time testing the new designs it might be necessary to lengthen the yarn carrier stem as well.
