The lid acts as a funnel, making it easy to fill your pods without getting coffee grounds on the rim of the pod I use Nessus Aluminum Foil Seal Lids , and the ridges on the base are designed specifically to line up with the tabs on the foil lids. It may work well with other brands, but I haven't tried it.
