Never lost Ikea Samla Clip (45l + 65l) V2

Summary Are you tired of searching your clips for your airtight Samla box once opened? You like the simplicity of print-in-place parts? Then this Samla clip is for you. The only thing you need are some drops of glue to fix the clips. Motivation I started using boxes from another brand named Iris that already come with sealing and clips attached to the box. But because these boxes got ridiculus expensive here in Germany I rather thought of upgrading to a less expensive but still functional box. Ikea comes with one of the best price/value for a storage box named "Samla". So I decided to design my drybox based on Ikea Samla. I choose the 45l sized box. The clip design here fits the 65l box as well because they share the same lid. Another advantage I recognized later on is that the Samla boxes are more transparent. So you can better see the inside of the box compared to more “foggy” transparency of other boxes. As an airtight sealing needs a clip for compressing the sealing foam between lid and box I needed clips for it. There are plenty designs around the different boxes and adapted to different sizes and sealing media. The one thing that annoyed me most was that the clips were not attached to the box and tended to drop off and get lost during opening and closing the box. So I thought of a solution addressing that: I remixed one of the existing Samla clip designs that I liked most. I remixed a print-in-place hinge with the clip on one side and a rail piece on the other side that fits nicely beneath the edge of the box. The whole resulting clip should also come as a print-in-place solution. I designed a rail piece as base for the hinge so that it can be glued to the outside U-shaped frame of the box. Non-printed Material The clip is designed for a thickness of 3mm of the sealing foam. I used this one ( Ratel Black Rubber Weatherstrip Foam : Amazon.de: DIY & Tools ) which is 6mm x 3mm. I propose to glue the strip onto the box and not onto the lid because you can exactly position it to the flat area that makes up the contact area between box and lid. Finding the right position when trying to glue it to the lid may be more difficult. Glueing the clip to the box depends on the type of glue you are using. I made best experience with a glue typically used for PVC ( Tangit PVC-U Plus ). After some sanding of the perfecty smooth box plastic surface (only inside the U-shape) this glue works very well for me. Print Settings Filament: PLA/PETG Nozzle Size: 0.4mm Print Height: 0.2mm Supports: None Perimeters: 3 Infill: 10-20% Brim: 3mm Printing Tipps Print the clip in a vertical position, so that the clip has the strongest structure along the clipping direction. Print w/o supports. I propose a brim, especially when printing in PLA. 8 clips for 1 box need approx. 100g filament. Update for V2 This V2 update is for stapling 5l/11l boxes onto 45l/65l boxes. 22l boxes can be stapled on 45l/65l boxes w/o update. You may also switch to version V2 of the clip if you want a similar design when also printing the 5l/11l/22l version of the clip . The V2 version offers a slightly better grip for mounting and unmounting the clips because of the larger 'T'-shaped clip arm.
