Description

The OSP Controller is a compact interface and power management module designed to support communication over the Open Serial Peripheral (OSP) protocol. OSP is a lightweight communication protocol based on fixed-size data frames transmitted over an RS232 serial interface, enabling deterministic and efficient data exchange between connected devices. A key feature of the OSP protocol is its support for a ring (daisy-chain) topology, allowing multiple nodes to be connected sequentially through a single controller. This architecture simplifies wiring, reduces the number of required interfaces, and enables scalable system expansion without complex network infrastructure. The OSP Controller integrates: A USB-to-serial interface (FT232) for communication with a host system A DC-DC step-down converter for stable power distribution A dedicated COM interface (JST XH 6-pin) for connecting OSP nodes The controller acts as a bridge between a host computer and the OSP network, handling signal routing and power delivery to connected devices. It is intended for use in embedded systems, robotics, and modular hardware platforms where reliable serial communication and flexible topology are required. The assembly instructions are available in the PDF file attached.
