Description

OvO what's this? This is a special realistic and lightweight 3d printable feather you can easily adjust to different sizes and shapes. What and who is it for? It was specifically designed for making large folding bird wings for cosplay. Thanks to OpenSCAD, entire sets of feathers can be automatically generated to the exact size and shape that's required to cover the whole wing. It can be used for anything from decor to movie props. How to customize: For those who just want to give it a quick try, stl files are provided. However for full customization, both Fusion 360 and OpenSCAD files are provided, where you can quickly change the size and even shape of the feather by changing several parameters, without any modelling or programming knowledge. Thanks to nukumi_doragon, the OpenSCAD file is available. It's recommended to use it for very big feathers (longer than 30cm), where Fusion 360 generally struggles and takes quite long to generate such a large and complex model. How to print: For a toony effect, you can print the feathers with a 0.4mm nozzle and PLA. Make sure to use the feather_nozzle0,4.stl or adjust the nozzle_width parameter to 0.4 in CAD. For maximum realism it is recommended to print it with 0.2mm nozzle and LW-PLA filament with 80% flow rate (print feather_nozzle0,2.stl or adjust the nozzle_diameter in Fusion or OpenSCAD). The first layer should be printed with 220 C and the second layer at 250 C. The item in the picture was created by modifying a standard PLA profile in Bambu Slicer as described above and printed on P1S. I'm pretty sure this should work on any modern printer. The most important thing is making sure that the bed level calibration and flow calibration are done properly. Otherwise barbs will stick or it won't adhere. For very realistic props, the feathers can be printed in white LW-PLA and airbrushed.
