Description
This is an insert for a pill bottle with holes of differing diameters and depths.. I was looking for a drill bit organizer to handle a set of 9 mini drills in the 0.5mm-3mm dia x 25-60mm long range, and saw some sewing needle organizers and pill boxes, and they didn't quite seem right to separate the 0.5x15mm drill from the 3.0x60mm drill. Then I saw a pill container, and said -- if Only I had an insert that had a bunch of holes at the proper depths, it would work great. Then, a bit of OpenSCAD with the BOSL2 library later, I had an file for an insert with 9 holes of all different diameters and depths, and I could arrange them in a spiral arounf the edges of the pill bottle. It being OpenSCAD it is customizable, and you can do things like fir any Rx pill bottle, have 40 holes, arranged in a 1440 degree spiral with interpolated depths from through-hole to 1mm and a interpolated range of hole sizes. Since it uses BOSL2, it has rounded corners and blends, but you need to do that in OpenSCAD's customiser, not Thingiverse's, since it doesn't have the library installed. You can change the direction of the spiral by using a negative degree range, like -360 or -720. It also has an optional through hole to speed printing and not waste storage space. I'm certain that a cylinder with a variable hole pattern might be useful for other things than a drill bit organizer. Maybe a plate with a bunch of depressions in for some sort of game, an index plate, a opto-interrupter, a spacer or bushing, etc... But my primary use is to use my 3DP to upgrade unused pill bottles into a organiser for small fiddly tools.
