Description

This is a remix of a version that used 3x3mm magnets and required drilling/dremel to achieve a good fit. I had dozens of 3x2mm magnets leftover from another projects and do not yet own a dremel, I downloaded the medium sized box and did some messing around with blender to shorten the magnet hole depth to roughly 2.1mm and expand the diameter to roughly 3.2mm. Now the magnets will insert with a firm push rather than a need to bore the holes larger. In my experience the magnets held firmly, minus one hole in the lid which needed superglue to keep the magnet in place. A tip I learned in a comment on the previous version of this pill box is to not heat the magnets to improve the fit - this often demagnetizes them. For the box bottom I used a base layer of archimedean chords and top of octagram spiral. For the box top I used octagram spiral for the base layer and archimedean chords for the top layer. for non-travel use I recommend 8 magnets on the base and 4 (alternating) on the lid creates a shake-proof seal which still turns easily for travel/purse use I recommend a full application of magnets on both sides. the top requires more force to spin and to pull off if you expect to use the pill box for both home and periodic travel use you could create two lids, one with 4 magnets and one with 8 to swap between as necessary Magnet tricks to ensure nothing gets inserted the wrong direction: create a rod of 8 magnets from only one end of the rod, apply them one by one to the edge of a putty knife/print bed scraper or other sturdy magnet friendly metal object with an edge color exposed magnet surface with sharpie or other marker one by one, press each magnet into the holes in the box base with the putty knife, ensuring the exposed surface is the unmarked side and the magnets are pushed in fully once all are inserted to the base, attach a second magnet to one of the magnets on the base use the base to push that exposed magnet into a hole in the lid repeat steps 5-6 either 4 or 8 times if a magnet has a loose fit you can pull it out with another magnet, apply a small dollop of superglue into the hole, and repeat steps 5-6 again for that hole
