Description

I wanted drain trays to match the fancy plant pots made by @thudbuzz here: https://www.printables.com/model/127174-plant-pots-planters The idea is to use the same pot design, scaled up a little and cut short to make a drain tray. A remix was needed to add drain supports that lift a pot slightly and allow water to escape the pot and get caught by the tray. Drain supports are simple bumps or ribs on the bottom interior surface, about 1-2 mm tall. Models were left as full pots to allow customization. To use models as a drain tray, scale the model in your slicer to the desired size and cut the model at whatever height works for you. The desired size will be slightly larger than the pot you want to use it with. Exact dimensions or scaling factor will depend on the geometry of the pot you choose and the size range you are working with. Pot 001 has some geometry that angles inward and will need more clearance if the tray is tall. Pot 006 has finer geometry that does not change inward angle with height and can be scaled a little tighter. Example: I needed some 80mm pots with trays for a little project. I scaled up the drainage pots I wanted to 80mm. Then I took my modified solid pot models, scaled up to 90mm and cut at 15mm height. The result is an 80mm pot that fits into a 90mm tray, happy basil, and happy wife. I print both pot and tray at the same time, same settings, which match original pot recommendations for a water tight print, 5 bottom layers and 3 walls. I printed on a Bambu Labs X1C with PETG in solid colours for the slick surface finish, forgiving finished print, and water resistance. I used the standard 0.4 nozzle and 0.12 to 0.2 layer height for various finish qualities. Hopefully someone finds these models as helpful as I did. Thank you to @thudbuzz for the great pots! PS - my mesh-fu is not very strong. While the models should work fine, keep CAD expectations reasonable.
AI Analysis: This object is a plant pot drain tray designed to hold a plant and facilitate water drainage. It features a geometric shape with a central drainage hole and radiating slots that help guide water away from the base of the plant. The tray is made of a solid material, likely plastic or metal, and is intended for use in indoor gardening to prevent water pooling and promote healthy plant growth.
