Description

Background: Adjusted diameters to give more “slop”, added crush ribs to securely grip cardboard center and account for manufacturing tolerances, & removed filament tail cutout. Will work with Polymaker 1kg, 0.75kg w/spacer or 0.5kg rolls that have a 90mm cardboard tube ID and 60mm width for 1kg or 0.5kg or 45mm width for 0.75kg. I have the seam set to back so it runs down the length at the center of the notch. I also use a 5mm brim to keep it adhered to the bed. The OD and ID of the adapter should be 89mm and 82mm, respectively, when printed. You may need to account for shrinkage depending on the material you print with. Instructions: Tape end of filament to prevent unwinding. Some find it helpful to fully wrap tape around filament to contain the entire spool. Painters tape works well because it does not leave a residue. Remove cardboard spool end (filament tail side first, look/feel inside tube to see which side has the tail) by working your way around the circumference and slowly prying it off. Clean up glue and left over cardboard after side is removed. Be careful not to disturb the freshly wounded spool. I use a deburring tool to remove the glue and it comes off very easily. Trim filament tail flush with roll. Insert tapered side of adapter (notch side up) into the cardboard spool and press in until flush. If you have a 0.75kg spool, you will also have to place the spool spacer over the exposed adapter. Place tab half of Bambu soool into adapter and ensure to align the tab with the notch in the adapter. Turn spool over and repeat the process. When placing the final side of the Bambu spool, do not forget to twist and make sure it locks into place. Enjoy your freshly converted cardboard to Bambu spool of filament.
