Porsche 718 Boxster Radar Detector Mount

This bracket is designed to mount a Valentine V1 detector forward and below the passenger sun visor on a 718 Boxster. This is much less visible and a more elegant solution compared to the “in your face” mount under the rear view mirror. Since the Boxster is a convertible the bracket is designed to allow rapid de-mounting of the detector so that it can be stored in the glove box or side pocket if the roof is left open while the car is parked. This radar bracket may also work with the Valentine V2 detector and may also work with the 718 Cayman, although the ability to move the passenger visor to the side will be lost. The mount may also be modified to work with other detectors. There are three pieces to the assembly: The main bracket. One end is tucked behind the headliner at the top of the windshield and the other is clamped under the new component on the visor clamp. The new visor clamp replaces the OEM cover/visor clamp that holds the end of the sun visor. A radar holder that fits into the slots on the V1 detector. The holder is attached to the main bracket by inserting the tabs and rotating the detector+bracket by 90 degrees. Print the component from a temperature resistant filament. I prefer PC, but PET-G, PCTC, ABS or ASA should also work. Print the radar holder standing up and minimal supports will be required. After printing, assembly is as follows: Remove the OEM visor bracket by removing the thin cover plate and using a torx bit to remove the mounting screw. Tuck the main bracket under the headliner with the tail end pulled toward the visor clamp. Note that the new visor clamp replaces the top half of the OEM visor clamp. The bottom half of the OEM bracket inserts through the new clamp and together they grip the visor bar. The new visor piece should nestle inside the OEM part. Assembly requires that the capturing the visor bar and also getting the bracket end under the new visor clamp (see pictures). Use the screw to secure the main bracket and visor clamps. (Store the OEM piece and cover). Slide the radar holder onto the V1 detector using the slots on the side of the detector, the insert the tabs into the main bracket and twist 90 degree to hold it into place.
