Description

New options: Split versions for small printers and new mid part to improve stability when collapsed (see updates below) Also modern laptops and notebooks get quite hot if standing flat on the desk and the vents have to work harder than necessary. Slightly lifting it from the desk helps cooling a lot. I once found a design on Thingiverse very similar to this. I printed it and used it for a long time. The only issue I had were the tolerances. The assembled stand was quite loose and the collapsed version for transport would simply fall apart. I wanted to create a remix with smaller tolerances, but couldn't find the design any more. Therefore I designed it from scratch from the print I had. So if you think this was your design, send me the Thingiverse Id or Printables reference of your model and I'll be happy to mark this as a remix. And thanks again to "unknown" for the nice design idea, which i basically copied. There are many much smaller portable laptop supports on Thingiverse and elsewhere (e.g. KUNA , but they are usually not very stable when you accidentally push against the laptop or when you travel on the train. The three part design seemed to be a good compromise between stability, portability and a low angle. It is easy to print (no support) and it fits nearly any notebook or laptop out there. With the reduced tolerances it is now very stable and the three parts can be clamped together for easy transport. BTW: Laptop is perfect for 14" and 15" laptops, for larger devices you might want to scale it a bit. Hint for printing: Easy print, no support required. If adhesion of your print bed isn't perfect, pin down the thin end of the side parts with an anti-warping pad in Cura (TabAntiWarping plugin). In PrusaSlicer you might want to add some “mouse ears” for the same purpose. Update: 2023-01-16: Added .STL file with complete set and “mouse ears” to keep the thin ends on the print bed (can be peeled off later easily) Update: 2023-01-19: Just a very minor update: It looks like I forgot to smoothen the front hooks (someone reported that it "scratches" at the front), so I added some fillet to the edges and re-uploaded all files. Update: 2023-04-06: New middle part to improve stability when collapsed : I've tried to improve the stability in collapsed mode without sacrificing the design and without adding a lot more material as in Lebkuchens remix . The mid part V2 has some additional small brackets that support the long lower end of the side parts. The side parts themselves are unchanged. Update 2023-04-03 .. 2023-04-06: Split Versions for small printers For those who have rather large laptops but small printers where the model with the right scale doesn't fit, I've created split versions of side and middle part (both V1 and V2) that allow printing on small print beds and still scale the model for larger laptops (17" or more). Due to the guide pins stability doesn't really suffer (tested). Some glue is recommended, although joined parts might just hold "press-fit". Left and right side are identical, i.e. you need to print two instances of each "...Split.." part (2x SideSplit-1, 2x SideSplit-2 and 2x MidSplit (either old design or V2)) Update 2023-04-29: As requested by @Mazhar_190125 , I've uploaded a modified side part with higher front stops (+6mm) Update 2023-12-13: as requested by @Olivecns_1558551 , I've uploaded a tighter version (for Bambu Labs X1C). The “gap” between the parts is reduced from 0.18mm (seems to be perfectly fine for average hobby printer like my Creality CR-10 V2) to only 0.05 for the Bambu Labs X1C Update 2025-06-01 as requested by @yournemesis_3304260 I've now uploaded the opposite - an extra loose version - for printers with lower accuracy. The gap has been increased to 0.25mm
