Description
This is a modified adaptor for a side spool holder that hooks onto the side of the 3030 extrusion profile of the MK3/S/+, based on the original model made by Max for his Prusa Mini. I operate a small print farm with limited space, so my printers are placed quite close together. In order to make better use of the limited space I have, I chose to do without the top mounted spool holders you can find online, or the one that's provided. There wasn't really a good way to mount the spool holder onto my shelves without using a lot of material (and print time) and would be stiff enough, so I sought to look for one that could be mounted on the side of the printer. I stumbled on Max's remix of the side spool holder and thought that it'd be a great idea to try. His file was a bit too long for my liking as I wanted things to be compact, so I modified it to be shorter to fit snugly on the side of the printer, resting on the front side profile. I printed my parts in PLA but used structural settings i.e. 4-6 perimeters, 25-40% gyroid infill, 0.2mm layer height. I honestly don't see a problem with PLA after using it for a month+, so it shouldn't be an issue for most. The spool holder I'm using here is Max's own V2.1 extra wide spool holder, so please go download that from his model page as well. This part is designed to fit on the front right side of the printer. You should be able to mirror it such that it can fit on the left as well. I would recommend that you load your MK3/S/+ printer with the filament coming from the bottom to avoid issues, as I've found that it can cause new spools that are very full to unwind easily.
