Description
Hello, I needed to install RCA panel-mount connectors on my Apple IIGS. I have always been a bit uncomfortable with the common Apple II practice of simply routing cables in and out through the openings at the back of the case. I prefer being able to plug and unplug cables easily without having to open the computer every time. For HDMI and USB, I have been using the excellent backplate models from danmalec ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3679628 ). In the same spirit, I designed a set of RCA panel-mount backplates. They come in several versions: A large version using an Adafruit male-to-female RCA cable fixed to the backplate https://www.adafruit.com/product/1729 A large version with one or two panel-mount RCA connectors secured with a nut (cheap and widely available on Aliexpress) https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005008896127710.html A small version with a single panel-mount RCA connector secured with a nut These parts should be printed in nylon and fitted with two M3 brass heat-set inserts (4.2 mm hole), just like the danmalec models. They are then gently secured to the Apple IIGS case with matching screws. It is important not to apply too much stress, as the original plastic cases have become very brittle over time. On my own computer, I am currently using the version with two RCA connectors. It is connected to my ESP32 SoftCard, allowing me to route the composite RCA output of the IIGS into the card’s video input, then send the processed output from the ESP32 card to an external RetroTINK 2X, and finally to my monitor via HDMI. I printed my parts in MJF nylon (PA12S-HP) at JLCPCB and painted them white. The models have been tested and everything fits perfectly. I hope this can be useful for other Apple IIGS users.
