Description

Introduction After tinkering around with the BCAR barrel inserts for the Protean and being frustrated with stuck and (with the dual stage cage) chewed up darts, I've started looking around for alternatives. I've stumbled upon the EX BCARs and thought to myself:"If people use them with Venom Pros, Meowsers and Gryphons maybe they're good enough for the Protean too", and so i've started designing. Variants As you can see there are four variants of the insert: Long: for standard one stage cages, the thread mount starts flush with the front of the Protean Long Sunk: same as the Long but to shorten the distance between the Cage and the BCAR the threaded mount is sunk in the insert bore just enough for the bearings to not touch the front of the blaster Short: same as the Long but for dual stage cages and for the Royobion and the Mini Protean receivers Short Sunk: Same as the Short but with the sunk mount. Printing Instructions As per Epicxxxx instructions the threaded mount should be printed with 0.12 layer height, if you want to save printing time I recommend you to use the Height range modifier in PrusaSlicer and print the main portion of the insert with 0.2 layer height while the threaded part with the 0.12 layer height. For perimeters 4 should be enough. Final Notes I still need to make the tighter variants of the inserts (the ones marked with T in the Flygonial release files), so they could be loose. If anyone is wondering I've used the 6dot7 Classic BCAR, probably a tighter crush could also work, but I've not tested them. Old ranting, it's recommended to jump to the next paragraph I don't really know why the stock Inserts didn't work, maybe out-of-spec bearings? But I've bought them via the link provided by Flygonial on the BOM. Darts too big? I've tested them with both Worker and X-Shot darts, the results where the same. Flywheels too slow? I've tested them with both a dual and single stage cages, same results. Rifling angle too aggressive? I've even tested the Null angle variant, same story. With the latest update to the Protean's fileset Flygonial added a new BCAR that uses smaller bearings.
