Description
I wanted some form of enclosure to use with Professor Boots' Excavator and SkidSteer, to hold sand/gravel/rice/… that can be ‘excavated’ or scooped up without it spilling everywhere. This is especially useful indoors. So I designed this simple sand pit. There's the option to add an additional plate in front and/or to the sides, for the RC vehicles to stand on while excavating/scooping. Because on a smooth floor, a nearly empty pit risks being jostled around by the Excavator due to its low weight. These plates can slot into the front/sides/back for a secure attachement. The size of the pit is small, but for a reason. I wanted to be able to store the pit and plates in an empty filament box, and I wanted to be able to print them on an A1 Mini. So any 180x180 build plate or larger will fit these. UPDATE: I've also added a sand step with ramp, that can attach to the gravel pit for instance at the back to give access from above (useful for the excavator for instance). There are 2 options: a sand step with a flat top surface, and one with a textured top surface. In combination with fuzzy skin for the sand step and sand ramp, the textured version really makes it look like a pile of earth. I've also added a piece of wall that can be added on one of the sides. This is useful to provide more fixed surface when scooping up gravel from the pit. Add it to the same side as where you added the sand step. WARNING: depending on your printer's tolerances and the filament used, the dovetails of these parts might be a bit tight. Should you have issues, using a file to file down the male dovetail parts will work well enough. I might at some point upload a version with looser tolerances, when I revisit this project (not planned for the near future [written on 19/01/2025]).
