Description
The Shimano FH-TC500 is infamously known to have/develop lateral play in the rear hub, even straight from the factory. The source of the lateral play is a tiny gap between the freehub and the bushing. This gap allows the freehub to slide a fraction of a millimeter along the hub axle. No amount of tightening of the lock nut, the cassette lockring, or the thru axle itself will eliminate this gap. Thank you to Reddit user Defiant-Painting7491 for tracking down the problem. This super simple print will eliminate the lateral play once the spacer is installed between the freehub body (#6) and bushing (#7). Disassembly instructions can be found in the Shimano Dealer's Manual . 📷 Image redacted — claim this model to add your own media A 0.8 mm spacer printed in PETG is what worked for me, though some report 0.6 working for them, so I have included both print files. If I encounter any issues with it holding up I will update here.
