Description
This original idea was on one for the Voron, but I liked it so much I use it on all my printers now. The goal of this design was to, in the spirit of open source, allow people to make their own silicon brushes using all DIY parts. In this case, instead of purchasing a brush or anything like that, you can use a silicone bracelet like the ones sold everywhere. Parts/Tools Needed (per Brush) 1x M3x30 bolt 1x M3x16 bolt 1x M3 heat-set insert 1x M3nEs 1x basic/cheap-o silicone bracelet (You can find them on Amazon very cheap) Build Instructions The build itself is pretty simple: Print the brush and the two cutting templates. Install the heat-set insert in the site opposite where it will mount to the extrusion (see attached pic) Using the included 3-bristle and 4-bristle templates, cut up the silicone bracelet into the pieces that you need. You need to have 6 pieces per brush, and I would recommend you make 3 of each and you install them in an alternating pattern. The template has a small hole in it. Make sure to punch the hole with a needle to make the bolt go in easier. Screw the M3x30 into the heat-set insert and keep going until it comes out the other side. Install the M3nEs in the extrusion and line it up where the nozzle will pass. Using the M3x16 bolt, screw the brush into place. Perform a test loading of the tool to make sure everything clears as expected. Tips The template is designed to only graze the tip of the nozzle. If you want it to wipe more, cut the silicone piece about 1mm longer than the template is. You don't have to use an alternating 3-bristle / 4-bristle pattern but it's what worked best for me. Make sure to test the silicone bracelet that you purchase to ensure that it is, in fact, silicone and can handle high temperatures. Otherwise, you end up with a mess… There are alignment tools that can be found on Printables that will help you align the tool.
