Description

The original designs were pretty good, but I like my game inserts to hold the pieces more tightly, and I like vertical storage to be an option even if I don't do it myself. I made a bunch of changes to the original models and have uploaded several variations here. In the pictures I uploaded, I am using the 2-part variant, with the separate top and bottom main trays. There are also versions included that make them one piece, but it'll use a bunch more filament. I added a separate removable tray to hold the penguins and the other tokens (I don't store them in the boards). There are also a number of upgrade components. Print instructions: I printed all parts in PLA with .2mm layer height, 15% gyroid infill, 2 layer loops, no supports or brim. Assembly Instructions: If you just want a slightly tighter storage, and already like what you have for the top layer, simply print the lower layer, and possibly the smaller removable tray for the penguins if you have that expansion. Insert the lower layer underneath the layer you already printed, and if using, insert the smaller tray underneath the original token tray. There is a 3mm height difference between the short & tall versions of these. If you are starting from scratch, decide if you want 2 parts or 1 for the main insert. Also decide if you want to enable vertical storage or not. Print either one top and the base for 2 part, or the whole insert in one shot. I only made the 2-part insert compatible with the ice brake mod. The st_base_sm_tray will nest directly underneath your existing token tray - use the tall or short version depending on which version of the base insert you are using. Either use Kali's original, or for the Turbulence expansion grab the 5-tray variant from here . If you are using one of my top-layers , you'll want to use the latter. If you have the Turbulence expansion, you can print six of the penguins from here and they drop right into the lower tray slot. They look great when you paint them in the slicer. If you are using my altitude/approach slider, recommend use the short versions of the base and small tray. Otherwise, you can still use these versions or the tall ones. The tall ones might give you a slight bit of box lift as the player shells try to unfold, but there is enough room and it does compress shut without damaging anything. For assembling the 2-part alarm panel, if you want to keep using the original cardboard piece, you will want to ensure you have the right orientation of the top cover with the cardboard cutout first, before assembling. Especially if you are using the no-hole version of the bottom, it will be hard to get them out after. The top cover fits in 2 orientations, try both aligned to the top of the cardboard cutout. One way will look better with the graphics than the other because, at least in my printing, the graphics were printed slightly asymmetrically. My recommendation for definitive set of upgrades: My personal recommendation for setting this game up is as follows - most of these will look really sweet if you do some painting in the slicer and print in multicolor: From my files in this collection: 6 of my penguins 1 of my altitude/approach slider, glued or taped to the bottom. I used Scotch permanent double sided tape to attach it. 1 of my st_base_short 1 of my st_base_sm_tray_short 1 of my st_top_vert_storage_plus_icemod Some combination of my alarm tray files, depending on whether you want to use the cardboard piece or not. Plus other people's stuff that I recommend: 1 of kali's ice breaking holder riser the full set of sliders from Qualith 1 of the better wind indicators by Hugh Jayness 1 of the taller token trays by scottbre (use the 5-slot version) All of this fits inside the insert nicely - see the pictures for reference. If you follow my instructions and don't stack the player boards on top of each other, there should be no or minimal lift from the boards trying to expand.
