Description
I really like the spool holder that Sisul, Azuzula and RockyMtnMark designed + remixed, but I had some hookup wire spools with too much wire on them to fit on one of the reels included in Sisul's Thing, specifically 20gau and 22gau hookup wire spools which are slightly too wide to fit in this design. Instead of widening the body, which would result in non-stackable reel holders, I decided to modify the printable reel. The spools themselves were also too physically large to fit in the spool holder with all that wire wound around them, so I fired up TinkerCad and reduced the inner diameter of the reel core + disc to allow for more wire. Roughly 15mm internal core seems to be the max amount of wire you can squeeze on one of these before the core gets too small. I beefed up the reel core to accommodate for this reduced diameter, also. Will not affect how the spool fits in the spool holder, just holds more hookup wire. Happy printing! I used the spool holder bodies and brake from RockyMtnMark's Thing, the stacking legs from their other Thing, and the spool holder side from Azuzula's thing. Printed fine in .3mm, the brake part requires supports! The tolerances on the spool halves are pretty tight so they may either snap together and stay, require a bit of finagling, or need glue. The last few I printed at .3 all snapped together tightly without the need for glue.
