Description
Description A compact, modular Stevenson screen designed specifically for the Aqara WSDCGQ11LM square temperature & humidity sensor (snap-in fit, no screws or glue for the sensor itself; removable anytime via the built-in latch). A Stevenson screen (instrument shelter) is used to protect weather instruments from precipitation and direct solar/heat radiation while still allowing air to circulate around them for more reliable measurements. Features Modular louver stack (“Lamella”): choose the number of lamellas to adjust overall height. Default build in my setup: 9× Lamella (internal height ~90 mm from bottom inner wall to top inner wall). No supports needed for any part (as designed). Quick removal from mount: Arm uses a dovetail slide to attach to either a pipe clamp or a flat-wall mount. Optional locking panels prevent the dovetail from sliding out during long-term outdoor use. Parts to print Cap — top rain cover; glues into the top Lamella (tongue-and-groove). Lamella — main louver element; print as many as you want (I used 9). Each Lamella is 8 mm tall, wall angle 45°. Lamella lower — top “base lamella”; Lamella stack glues into it; installs 4× M3 heat-set inserts on the bottom for bolting to Lower Part. Lower Part — sensor cradle + base that the louver stack bolts onto. Arm — bracket that glues to Lower Part, provides the dovetail interface. Pipe bracket front — front half of the pipe clamp for 65 mm OD pipe; includes dovetail socket + 2 holes for M3 heat-set inserts (for optional lock). Pipe bracket rear — rear half of the pipe clamp; bolts to Pipe bracket front using 4× M4 screws. Pipe locking panel (optional) — locks the dovetail on the pipe bracket (uses 2× M3 screws). Flat mount — wall/flat-surface mount with dovetail socket (optional lock supported). Flat mount locking panel (optional) — locks the dovetail on the flat mount (uses 2× M3 screws). Recommended filament (outdoor) Recommended: PETG or ABS (not PLA). If you need maximum long-term UV/weather resistance, ASA is commonly preferred for permanent outdoor parts. Print settings (what the model was designed for) Layer height: 0.2 mm Cooling: maximum on overhangs Supports: none Brim: not required (tested with PETG) Infill: not critical (pick what you prefer) Hardware (BOM) Heat-set inserts: M3 × 5 mm 4× for Lamella lower 2× for Pipe bracket front (only if using Pipe locking panel) Screws: 4× M3 screws for Lamella lower → Lower Part (M3×8 to M3×10 typically works; cut to fit if needed) 2× M3 screws for the locking panel (M3×8 to M3×10 typically works; cut to fit if needed) 4× M4 screws to clamp Pipe bracket front + rear (length as needed) Assembly overview Print all parts. Install M3×5 heat-set inserts into Lamella lower (4 pcs) and Pipe bracket front (2 pcs, only if using the pipe lock). Glue the louver stack into one rigid piece: Lamella lower + Lamella × N + Cap (glue all tongue-and-groove joints). Bolt the finished louver stack to Lower Part with 4× M3 screws. Glue Arm to Lower Part (this becomes one solid assembly). Choose mounting: Pipe (65 mm OD): clamp Pipe bracket front + rear on the pipe using 4× M4 screws, then slide the Arm in via dovetail. Wall/flat: install Flat mount to the surface, then slide the Arm in via dovetail. (Optional) Install the correct locking panel: Pipe mount → Pipe locking panel Flat mount → Flat mount locking panel Tighten with 2× M3 screws. Installation notes Place the screen where air can move freely around it (good ventilation is essential for accurate readings even with a proper shield). The shelter design is intended to reduce errors from direct solar radiation and protect the sensor from precipitation while keeping airflow.
