Description

This is a set of gridfinity based containers/bins which I created to fit a TS101 & TS100 soldering iron and other soldering related tools. There was always something I didn't quite like about existing designs and wanted something custom fit to my needs and set of tools. The base of this storing solution is Matthew's beautiful: Modern Gridfinity Case which I exported from his free onshape project link in a 6x3x9 size configuration. So if you wish to use set up a similar case you will have to generate the case model from his link. But any other gridfinity based case with these dimensions should work just as well. I used Matthew's Gridfinity Deep Bins via the provided onshape link to generate differently sized containers/bins as a base starting point and then began modeling the actual slot pockets into each of them. You can print these with generic settings: for example 2 outer perimeters, 4-5 vertical shells, 10-15% infill. PLA or PETG as filament is enough. No supports are needed for any of the parts. Container for the Power Brick & Cable: I bought my TS101 as a set which included the power brick shown in the photos so I wanted to integrate it into the case with the cable neatly and securely stowed below. I am quite happy with the solution as it also prints without the need of any supports. If you don't have the same power brick then you can simply leave out this entire container and simply generate a 6x3x9 sized version of Mattew's Modern Gridfinity Case. Container for the Stand, Solder Scroll, Solder Wick Spool: When actively working on something you can simply take out this entire stand container and use it outside of the case to save some space… or place it on top of the closed case. I love Victor's Solder Scroll Tool so I made sure to make a fitting slot for it within one of the containers. To retrieve the tool you have to push down it on the spool end. Because of a deeper pocket on that side it will tilt and lift the tool. The stand arm can be found here: Stand holder for TS100, TS101, Pinecil soldering iron - stronger & symmetrical I remixed an existing stand arm that uses a 608 ball bearing. I made it symmterical and gave it a stronger stem. It uses an M3x16 screw + nut. The solder wick spool can be found here: Solder Wick Spool I found the original spool of solder wick I have here too large so I decided to create a smaller snap together spool from scratch that still fits into this container. This entire container is meant to be used at the very top of a case so it doesn't support perfect stacking of container above it. Container for the TS101 / TS100 soldering iron, Soldering Tip, Bit Holder: This is the main container for the soldering iron and a solder tip. Both the soldering iron and the soldering tip be pushed down on one side to tilt & lift them up for easier retrieval. This container is also meant to used at the very top of a case because other containers can't be perfectly stacked on top of it (depth constraints). The bit holder grip can be found here: Precision Bit Holder / Thumb Grip - 4mm I made this tiny thumb grip for a 4mm precision flat head bit. It's just there in case you need to adjust the locking screw on the soldering iron. Container for 3 additional soldering tips: This container can be stacked in any position depth wise and holds 3 soldering tips. Each soldering tip can be retrieved nicely by pushing down one of the ends down which will tilt & lift it. Container for heat insert tips and adapter: This container holds a ruthex heat insert adapter for a TS100/TS101/Pinecil. I am using generic heat insert tips I bought on amazon. If yours looks similar to mine then the slots here should fit as well. This container can also be stacked in any position. Container for universal use: This 4x2x3 sized container/tray sits below the stand container and can be used for holding various other tools/components. This whole endeavor started with me wanting to briefly omptimize something. But it quickly turned into yet another project… but I'm really happy with how this entire storing solution turned out. I hope it will be useful to others as well.
