12/15/2022 Update: I made the openscad file more flexible with 5 variations & included the STL files for each. Just change the variable Type to a number from 0-4 for the different variations. Meanwhile Jack remixed this design to make the openscad script even simpler. Take a look at his remix. Someone on another forum pointed me to this page Maurer rose - Wikipedia which has some python script for generating string art. There is a way to use python with openscad, so this method looks worth exploring. After seeing how well Jack's string ornament design worked, I decided to test whether this idea would work with any string art design. Searching on the Internet found this page: String art - Wikipedia I did kind of a brute force method redrawing the 2d geometry of this in an AutoCAD clone. I used a lisp program & a visual basic program I have to put the points for the linear extrudes together. I thought this worked pretty good, but I would like to find a more mathematical way to draw these. I will probably play around with this some more & welcome anyone's suggestions to automate this method. Sandify might be a good starting point for generating these stringarts. Sandify I did have one problem with the Prusaslicer v2.5 with slicing this & if you import FlowerSewingPattern_1Pedal_Rev5.stl & preview the slicing you should see the problem. I included a screen shot of what it looks like to me. Changing the extrusion height of that one string from 0.21 to 0.26 got around the problem for me. Seems like that is a bug, but could be my settings. I included the openscad source & STL file. This ornament is about 100mm in diameter & I added the hook code that original design uses, so you will need that same ub.scad include file.
