Description

Building this awesome 🀩 Open Ball vise and the XL Base and having the Fusion file at hand πŸ‘Œ I felt I needed to improve the very few things that were not perfect for me 😎: Give it a 3-point stand so it's 100% wobble free on the desk πŸ‘ Increase the spacing πŸ“ of the mount options to allow for more tools (e.g. a magnifying lamp and magic arm) Create a nice and sturdy 2-part rear tube mount πŸ’ͺ All parts are compatible with the original design and of course there is also the Fusion file in the Files section in case you want to do some modifications. Support me: Please leave a ❀ Like if you actually like and use this model. πŸ₯° What You Need to Know If you are able to build the vise you should be ready for these modifications for sure. But to get you started let's very briefly go through the parts and options. Tool-Mounting Side Stands The site stands come in two versions: Standard Side Stand - Just a little wider as the original ones so they also fit tools with a slightly wider footprint (e.g. a magic arm). These stands come with three heat-set inserts (2 x M6 or ΒΌ inserts, 1 x M5) Extended Side Stand - They feature the exact same mount option as the standard side stands (3 x heat-set inserts), but with one additional mount point for even wider tools (e.g. a magnifying lamp). You can choose between an M8 heat-set insert and a M5 countersunk screw version (which I opted for to mount the magnifying lamp…. just have a look at the pics) for this additional mount point. …. and there is also a Markings-Only version for both - It just has little marks at the center of the mount point placements so you can easily customize it in you slicer for your needs (e.g. place a cylinder as negative volume, add a modifier to print some of the part solid and drill the hole later, … you got it) All the versions come with a round screw-on foot on the underside. Rear Stand and Tube Mount There are two options here as well A simple rear stand , similar to the original one but also with a round foot matching the side stands. And of course a fancy rear stand with a sturdy 2-part tube mount - give the vise what it deserves πŸ˜‰. This is provided for 20mm and 19mm diameter tubes with 1mm of wall thickness. And you can also choose between a 25mm and 30mm knob cap 🀩. πŸ‘‰ Note: The original design uses a 19mm rear tube, so if you opt for the 20mm version (which I am using) the original T-Mount and Gridfinty Tube Mount will not fit. I created a very simple remix of the two, just changing the tube diameter, adding some thickness to preserve the part's strength and doing a bit of cleanup. Check the REWORK folder in the Files section. Printing and Assembly All parts are oriented correctly for printing. I just simply use 4 perimeters and 40% infill for everything. Some parts need a bit of support, but only on B-surfaces. Normally you should just let the slicer do the job. For the little M8 bold holder of the knob make sure it sticks to the bed and use some brim. If you wonder what filament I used: Prusament ASA Galaxy Black Prusmaent ASA Lipstick Red Extrudr DuraPro ASA Anthrazit … and now for assembly just follow the pics. 😎 Side Feet: πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media Rear Foot without Tube: πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media Rear Foot with Tube: πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media And the final steps: πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media πŸ“· Image redacted β€” claim this model to add your own media BOM Side Stands M8 x 25 Button Head Screw: 2 pcs per stand M5 x 10 Hex Cap Screw: 1 pcs per stand M5 x 9.7 x 7.1 Heat-Set Insert: 1 pcs per stand Simple Rear Stand M8 x 25 Button Head Screw: 2 pcs M8 x 25 Hex Cap Screw: 1 pcs Rear Stand with Tube M8 x 25 Button Head Screw: 6 pcs M8 x 20 Hex Cap Screw: 1 pcs M8 Nut: 1pcs M5 x 9.7 x 7.1 Heat-Set Insert: 1 pcs per stand Other Parts Heat-Set Inserts for the tool mounts M5 x 9.7 x 7.1 M6 x 12.7 x 8.7 ΒΌ-20 x 12.7 x 8.7 M8 x 12 x 10 25mm Rubber Pads
