Description
A friend asked me to print him the Boromir pen holder for Gondor. When I printed it and filled it with Sharpies (what he was planning) I couldn't help but think it would be better if the Sharpies looked more like swords. Okay stop - I now know that Boromir was filled with arrows and not swords, but I haven't seen the movie in a while and forgot that little detail. So I searched for "Sharpie" and the very first hit was the gorgeous Sharpie Hilt - Pen is Mightier than the Sword - which is just perfect . Now mind you, I missed that this goes over the stock Sharpie cap (read the instructions, kids!) so was confused when it didn't fit, but I got there in the end. Only thing is it required supports, which led me to the second source - Fancy Sharpie Pen Sword Cap - which is a remix of the first, but dropped the hand guard to the bed to alleviate the need for supports. When I realized that both just went over the stock Sharpie cap, and wouldn't stay in place unless I glued them or something, I thought maybe I could just make the hand guard and leave it on the stock cap and have something that looks... swordish . It also has the added benefit of making the cap and pen far less convenient to use, so there's that. Prints super easy, should be a good press fit on the Sharpie cap (adjust X/Y scale if your printer doesn't get there, it's good on mine) and then you've got a swordish looking Sharpie for your movie-incorrect Boromir filled with swords . I thought about making arrow feathers for a Sharpie, but I've sunk enough time into this silly project for today, I think. Note that the original source shows up twice in the photos - once compared to this thing and once in poor ol' Boromir. As you can see, if you really want your Sharpie to look like a sword, go with that one instead.
