Description
The factory spool holder does not accomodate certain third-party filament spools that are wider than the ones from Ultimaker. It's also a little bit annoying to have to reach behind the unit to change filaments, and having to remove spool 2 to access spool 1. So I designed a side mounted filament spool holders for Ultimaker 3. It is mounted using the factory screw holes on the side of the printer. You'll need to get slightly longer screws to replace the factory ones, M3x20mm. The roller is uses 2x standard 608 skate bearings to make it spin more smoothly. The stem is reinforced by screwing in an M4x50mm screw through the back. The cap is optional because the tension from filament will keep the spool from falling off, but there is a hole in the stem for M3 0.5-M5 0.5-L6 self-tapping inserts for M3 screws for the cap. A M3x16mm screw is passed through the cap using an embedded M3 nut.
