Description
In this mod, the short Mech is V2 modified to receive 4x m3 heatset inserts. The Spin Ring V2 is modified to receive 1x m3 heatset inserts. This avoids the need to directly thread M3x12 into plastic. Direct-thread M3s are difficult/twitchy, even if you own an M3 bottoming tap, which you (probably) don't. The short Mech V2 ("20mm handle" mechanism) has been modified to receive M3 heatset inserts (ideally 6mm long) for the four screws that hold the gears (four screws that form the bearing and rotational axis of the gears). The Spin ring has also been modified to receive an M3 heatset insert for the handle. Primary advantages: The screws will NOT work themselves loose even in heavy use (if you use LocTite/Threadlocker thread adhesive). See below. You can precisely adjust the screw position/tension/depth for low friction, and smooth operation. You can use shorter M3x10 or M3x8 screws for the mechanism if that's all you have, without the screws constantly loosening themselves in the plastic You can remove/reinstall the screws (if needed) without ruining the threaded hole. You *must* (MUST!) use LocTite/Threadlocker on the screw threads, otherwise they *will* ABSOLUTELY work loose, which would defeat the purpose of this mod. I recommend BLUE (Medium) from Permatex (Threadlocker) or Henkel (LocTite).
