Description

This takes Onejensen's original file, and slices across the axis specified at the point specified, then extrudes the slice to the length specified. This came about because there were indications that Onejensen's file had differences in length for pieces that didn't fit some people's Kobra 2's. My thought was “can I take a slice of a cover and extrude it to the length I measure”…problem solved and maybe make a handy tool on the side. So, YES!…using this tool you can import the *.stl you want, slice it along the axis you want and extrude it to the length you want. Anything you can get a slice on, you can create an extrusion from that slice to the length you want. One of the issues I find is that people draft their models all over the place, any place but the origin. While you can set the bounding box so it encompasses the item, the easiest way to deal with "where is the item in space" is to open the item in Prusa slicer and then export the models as an *.stl. Use that file as the file to open with the openscad slicer file. The Prusa slicer moves the model to the center of its plate. In my case, this is 103.4500, 103.5, 0.000. You can look at the Prusa slicer settings for your model of printer and adjust it accordingly. This is the "easiest" way I've found for models that don't exist at 0,0,0. Read through the comments in the file. There are settings that allow you to show the original, the extrusion, or the 2d slice. I would have liked to make it easier, where the system organized the object in the *.stl at the origin and everything went easy. Unfortunately a python file was the only way to arrange that and I realized that wasn't going to fly here.
