Description

I was intrigued by the various exhaust fan mufflers for the Bambu X1, and since I had just acquired Fusion 360, decided to create my own version as a way to get up to speed with F360. I wasn't really expecting to make a quieter version, but it seems that is what happened. Using a calibrated sound level meter (set to Slow, C-weighted), I measured the noise level of the fan from a fixed distance (about 3 feet), and got the following somewhat surprising results (to me anyway): No muffler: 72 db Original muffler: 68 db My version 2: 64 db My version 3: 64 db Measurements were taken by starting a print of PETG with the textured pei plate to get the printer to turn on the fan, then hitting pause so there were no motor noises from the print head or bed moving. Designed for 6 6x3mm magnets, press fit. In the original design the "tab" for the screw was so thin (to accommodate using the original screw) that I found it easy to break the plastic when tightening the screw. I made the tab for the screw slotted and thicker, removed the original screw, and replaced it with a 10mm m3 allen head screw. Version 2 has a spherical insert in one corner that was in the original. I was curious if that really made any difference, so I also did one without it, and I got virtually the same noise level. Print the one you like better or print both and see if you can tell any difference! I'm honestly not sure why this one is quieter, but 4 db is significant. It may be just due to the chamfers on the corners. Pretty much any 6x3mm magnets should fit. I use these from Amazon: Amazon.com: Round Refrigerator Magnets, 100PCS 6×3MM Small Strong Fridge Magnets, Office Magnets, Whiteboard Magnets, Durable Mini Magnets : Home & Kitchen Update 12/28/22 - I added 2 new versions, both with a 38mm (1.5") diameter output port. Use one of these to vent the fumes somewhere else (like outside) Update 12/29/22 - I added an elbow joint “coupler” - use this with version 4 and you can point the exhaust left, right, or center Update 01/19/23 - added new elbow with 51mm port - for 2" hose. Also deleted version with side vent, now redundant
